Rosslyn Chapel · giving a tour

About the author

Dominik
Smrek.

Adventurer, filmmaker, and the person who walks every route in this game before it goes live. Most people know me as JourneyDude.

The story

A filmmaker who would rather walk it.

I am Dominik Smrek. I film Scotland: the closes, the chapels, the castle walls, the bits of a city that never make it into a guidebook. Most people know me online as JourneyDude.

Scottish Insider started as a complaint. City guides are written for whoever shouts loudest, and the places worth finding are rarely the loud ones. So I built a game where the only way to find them is to walk.

I walk every route before it goes live. I write the stories, take the photographs and answer the emails. If a pin is wrong, that is on me, and I want to hear about it.

Some of those walks also raise money for Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity through Turn Miles Into Smiles. Kids in hospital cannot go and find these places, so the walking happens for them too.

“For years I've explored Scottish history, but now I want to add a twist of compassion. Those who are not fortunate enough to travel deserve a smile.”
